As much as we welcome warm summer days, higher temps require different approaches to skin care. Whether from air con in the office or hot rays on the patio, skin is stressed from both environmental and lifestyle factors. Enter face mists: more than a cool spritz of spa water, they’re loaded with moisture boosters and natural calming ingredients to tone, hydrate and refresh tired dermis. Here are five we love for summer. —Michele Marko
caudalie beauty elixir. A favourite of celebrities and makeup artists, this mist aims to hydrate, tighten pores and set makeup. Composed of grape extract and essential oils like rose, bitter orange flower and rosemary, devotees say it improves skin’s radiance and refreshes when reapplied later in the day.
tata harper hydrating floral essence moisturizing toner. Used after cleansing or over makeup, the floral essence in this face mist is designed to boost moisture while the biocompatible hyaluronic acid promotes plumped skin with long-lasting hydration. Gotu Kola is incorporated for firmer skin; rose and lavender hydrosols (floral waters) are for calming redness.
lush breath of fresh air. Called a toner but, as Lush intends for many of its products, this sea-inspired spray is misty-multifunctional. Use it to set makeup, soothe and hydrate skin and even ease redness with ingredients that include ethically sourced, fair-trade, organic aloe vera gel, rosemary and rose absolute.
tatcha luminous dewy skin mist. This mist, used before makeup application or after, is composed of what the brand describes as a “proprietary complex of Okinawa red algae and hyaluronic acid” for hydration to improve the skin’s ability to retain that moisture. Ingredients include squalane derived from olives, silk extracts and Tatcha’s Hadasei-3TM—green tea, rice and algae—to promote youthful skin.
beautycounter nourishing rosewater mist. Just as the name suggests, the main ingredient in this mist is rose water, good for calming and refreshing skin. Also included: sodium hyaluronate for hydration and sweet orange oil and rosemary for a natural botanical scent.
