5 Canadian Family Road Trips

With the weather heating up and the end of the school year here, we’ve been bit by the travel bug—the road trip travel bug. And, with more than 5,000 kilometres from coast to coast full of breathtaking scenery and landmarks, Canada is full of noteworthy destination ideas to ensure our next family road trip is full of memorable experiences. Here, five stops we’re making on our next Canadian road trip:

elora quarry, ontario. This is the place for a full day of family fun, featuring a natural swimming hole surrounded by 40-foot cliffs. Roughly two hours north-west of Toronto, this hot-spot is perfect to take the kids for a dip, have a barbeque lunch or take a hike on one of the many trails.

banff and lake louise, alberta. Located within Banff National Park in Alberta, Lake Louise offers breathtaking landscapes with its piercing blue colour and surrounding mountains. The gondola ride is sure to be a hit with the kids, while allowing the entire family to get a 360-degree view of the Rocky Mountains. Whether taking the two-and-a-half-hour drive from Calgary or the six-hour trek from Edmonton, Lake Louise is worth the trip.

the cabot trail, nova scotia. With just under 300 kilometres of roadway from beginning to end, this scenic route in Nova Scotia is the perfect coastal drive full of spectacular views. The entire family will be thrilled to discover all that Cape Breton has to offer—and there’s plenty of family fun to be had. Grab a snack at the beach canteen in Cape Breton Highlands National Park, or kayak in the world-famous North River.

the eastern townships, quebec. This charming region of Quebec is in-between the Saint Lawrence River and the Northeastern U.S., about an hour south of Montreal. The countryside is filled with charm, natural landscapes and gourmet food and drinks. Keep the kids entertained with a treetop adventure in Lac Mégantic or a visit to the water park in Bromont.
