Do you think you know your favourite Canadian stars? Indeed, there is more to them than meets the eye. Here we discover the hidden talents and skills behind some of our favourite Canadian stars from the world of music, TV, film, books and more.
that does impress us much. Canadian singer Shania Twain has sold millions of records worldwide and is used to scaling the charts. However, as well as reaching new heights on the charts, Shania’s hit song Up is also attaining unexpected peaks as it has been used to wake up astronauts while they are in space. That does impress us much!
bieber cube. Fellow Canadian singer Justin Bieber is not only a chart-topper, but he is a cube popper, too. In fact, he can solve the 3D puzzle Rubik’s Cube in under two minutes.
taming the tiger. Poker remains a popular pastime on tour buses and in the casino, which is probably why one of Canada’s own, the incredible Joni Mitchell, took a liking to it. You might also be surprised to learn that she used to play poker every Monday evening at the Kirkwood Casino back in the 1970s. Don’t believe it? Listen to her beautiful song Taming the Tiger, where she sings "Every disc, a poker chip." Along with this, many other songs highlights the love of poker and other games.
behind the song. Singer, songwriter and musician Bryan Adams is also a hugely talented photographer, and his work was exhibited at Canada’s 150th birthday celebration at the Royal Ontario Museum or ROM. Superstar singer Celine Dion is also multitalented and is quite good at golf as well. Speaking of Canadian singers, then Avril Lavigne also warrants a mention. In addition to singing, she is also a talented fashion designer and has even launched a fashion line.
game, set and match. Anyone for tennis? Friends actor Matthew Perry grew up in Canada and was quite nifty with a tennis racket, competing nationally as a junior tennis player. We wonder what could have been if he decided not to go into acting—could we have seen him play at the likes of Wimbledon, alongside Andy Murray, Roger Federer and similar? However, we can’t imagine anyone else playing Chandler Bing, though!
voiceover. We know that Ryan Reynolds hits the mark when it comes to acting, but did you know that he is also a talented impressionist, too. He can easily emulate his co-worker’s dulcet tones and undertake an uncanny impression of his film co-stars.
We have such a talented pool of writers, singers, actors and more in Canada, and while our favourite stars are known for their standout talent, it is great to see that there is more to them than what they are famous for doing. It shows that you can never judge a book by its cover and that there is more to people than meets the eye. Has this inspired you to try learning a new skill today?
