September 10, 2018

As summer comes to an end, the kids are back to school and work schedules are filling up by the minute. With this busy time comes an opportunity to streamline our morning routines—starting with our hair. Below, Suki’s Salons senior stylist James Valiant shares his tips for celeb-inspired autumn ‘dos you can achieve at home in five minutes flat (read through to find out how you could win a cut and colour valued at up to $300 at one of Suki’s Lower Mainland, B.C., locations!):

the half-up half-down. Inspired by celebrity stylist Kristin Ess and seen on celebrities like Lauren Conrad and Lucy Hale, start by parting your hair to the side, then taking a middle hair section from the top of your head and back comb it for volume. Next, use an elastic to secure the backcombed middle section and take one side and pull it over the middle section of hair so you cover the elastic. Secure it with a bobby pin, but be sure to hide the bobby pin by flipping the hair under and securing the bobby pin. Repeat on the other side and finish with hairspray. Optional step: add a barrette over top.

the knotted low pony. This is Fall 2018’s new take on the low pony! The low pony was seen all over runways last season and continues to come through into fall. Celebrities like Emma Roberts and Elizabeth Olsen have been spotted wearing this hairdo. First, part your hair to the side and section hair into three parts (middle and sides). Take the middle section and secure with elastic at nape of the neck. Take the side sections of your hair and tie into a knot above the back section (leave out front pieces around the face for an undone look). Incorporate the back ponytailed section and tie into a second knot; secure the knot with an elastic. Loosen a few pieces in the knot for an effortless look! Optional: add bobby pins to secure any loose pieces; hide the elastic by wrapping a small piece of hair around it and securing with a bobby pin.

the polished top knot. As seen on the runway at the Fall 2018 Chanel show. This look is polished with a relaxed vibe—it can be dressed up and down! Before you start: put two bobby pins on either end of the elastic. Brush hair into a high ponytail; hairspray flyaways for a polished look. For a secure your ponytail, start by pinning the first bobby pin at the top of your ponytail and wrapping the elastic around your hair. Finish by securing the second bobbypin into the ponytail. Twist/wrap hair into bun (adjust to the size you want) and secure with bobby pins. Loosen pieces for a relaxed/messy look and finish with hairspray.
