Fly Me (and My Honey) to the Moon

January 31, 2019

Looking for the Valentine’s Day meal to end all Valentine’s Day meals? Look no further than H Tasting Lounge at Vancouver’s Westin Bayshore Hotel, where chef Alex Mok has created a February 14th-only four-course menu called "Fly Me to the Moon," inspired by romantic travel—by land, sea and air.

First up, the "taxi" course, featuring a baked Fanny Bay oyster (aphrodisiac, y’all) with butter-sautéed wild mushroom and celery, aburi with wasabi aioli. Next, the "take off," with either a lobster bisque en croute with caramelized fennel and vanilla or beetroot textures with chèvre foam, mandarin gel and candied pepitas. Third, the "in flight" course, boasting a choice of beef tenderloin with caramelized shallot jam, chanterelle and sherry gastrique or sake kasu black cod, yaki onigiri, bonito, shiitake fondue. Finally, the "landing": a "beat of my heart" red velvet cake.

Wine pairings optional, $180 per couple (plus taxes, tip). Consider our taste-bags packed! —Noa Nichol
