Launched in 2014 (globally in 2017) by Emily Weiss, the brand has become a beauty powerhouse known for cult classics like Cloud Paint and Boy Brows that create perfectly fresh “I woke up like this” looks. But what about those of us yearning to get something more colourful and less natural from our makeup? Introducing Glossier Play, a range of neons, glitters and bright lacquers promising to dial up our look. We got our hands on the highly coveted new launch as soon as it became available to see if it could possibly live up to the hype of the OG Glossier. —Vicki Duong
colorslide. Glossiers’ first-ever eyeliner, Colorslide ($18), is a technogel eye pencil promising a fully packed pigmented colour that’s smooth, long-lasting and waterproof. The liner’s versatility between creating a defined line or the ability to smudge out for a diffused appearance makes it easy to pair multiple hues in one look. Available in 14 fashion-forward shades, our choice picks are Nectar, an ultra-trendy mustard, and Hardcore Velvet, a fashion-forward rich teal.
glitter gelée. We don’t think you’re ready for this gelée. Offered in four fun shades, Glitter Gelée ($17) is the superstar product of the Glossier Play lineup. In different sizes, GG features glitter suspended in a clear gel meant to be played with. Whether you’re looking for full-on sparkle or just a touch, once the clear gel dries that glitter is staying put. For those looking for more precision, Glossier Play also sells a silicone tool named The Detailer ($7) with an angled tip so you can dot and spread to your desired effect.
vinylic lip. Matte lipstick had its day in the sun; it’s time for ultra-glossy lips to shine once more. Available in six essential shades, Vinylic Lip ($20) is a high-shine lip lacquer in click-pen form. Although the click pen is somewhat retro, the formula is anything but: highly pigmented, ultra glossy yet managing not to be sticky or goopy. While the gloss factor didn’t last an entire workday without re-application, the colour did leave a lip-stained look without feathering or fading.
niteshine. Think of Niteshine Highlighter Concentrate ($25) as the extroverted sister of Glossiers’ Haloscope. While Haloscope adds a natural dewy finish, Niteshine illuminates with a foil-like finish. The packaging is similar to a bottle of nail polish, with a doe-foot applicator for precise application of the pearl-infused liquid formula. Best blended in with your fingertips, Niteshine adds an intensely shimmery glow available in four shades.
