This, in our minds, is a match made in heaven: eBay Canada has partnered with Toronto-based fashion tastemaker Britt Barkwell of Trouvaille to launch a limited-edition curated collection of handpicked items based on six top seasonal trends (think belt bags, coin jewellery, polka dots, platform sandals, utility chic and crafted bags). We chatted with Britt, a former editorial content lead for Club Monaco and Holt Renfrew, about the collab—not to mention, her personal fave key trend for spring! —Noa Nichol
Hi Britt! Please tell us a bit about yourself to start!
I’ve spent over a decade working in the fashion industry, most recently as Holt Renfrew’s resident editor. With the dramatic growth in online shopping, it seemed like there was a hole in the Canadian market and that we could add value by helping women navigate the overwhelming world of online shopping and simplify the search. I’ve always had knack for finding things online. Over the years, I’ve truly enjoyed crafting my style and decorating my home with unique and special pieces, but after having my daughter Izzie and returning to work, I realized that I was seriously lacking time. Naturally, any free moments I had I’d spend with Izzie rather than scouring the Internet. Around the same time I started to have friends reach out with design and styling questions. They knew my love for interior and fashion, and were in similar life situations, so they didn’t have the time to do it themselves. It was that common theme of being time-starved and in search of an edited assortment that kept coming up—and ultimately inspired Trouvaille. We want to help women discover and define their personal style while offering customized styling solutions that fit their individual lifestyles and budgets—and save on time!
Congrats on your collab with eBay Canada—how did it come about?!
Thanks! We’ve always been huge fans of eBay and consider eBay.ca a great resource for lucky finds at different price points. As our mission at Trouvaille is to help women navigate the endless possibilities of online shopping, eBay is a great fit. Their fashion category is constantly evolving, and it’s been fun helping them spread the word about it.
And to follow up, curious minds wish to know! What does a partnership with eBay Canada entail?!
This season, we’ve collaborated with eBay Canada to launch a curated collection of fashion finds, highlighting our take on the top six trends for spring! We’ve been updating our listings throughout the month, to make sure our collection at ebay.ca/trouvaille stays fresh.
How did you land on the six top seasonal trends for spring? Were there any others you wished could have made it into a wider collection? Alternately (or additionally), your absolute favourite trend going into spring (that you’ll personally be rocking), and why?
This spring we identified belt bags, platform sandals, coin jewellery, polka dots, utility dressing and crafted bags as our six key trends. We felt that these were the most wearable and versatile trends that dominated this seaons’ runways. We love that these trends can be achieved with both high-end and affordable pieces. I am most excited about the belt bag trend. As a mom of a two-year-old, I think that having a hands-free but stylish accessory is an amazing luxury.
What do you love most about shopping on eBay, and why should we all be doing more of it?
As someone who has built a career on discovering the latest fashion finds, I love that eBay has an incredible inventory of rare, highly-coveted and premium pieces. At the same time, you can also find the in-demand and trendy items, often at amazing prices. Anyone can find their version of perfect, no matter what it is!
Finally, if you could bid on just one single item on eBay Canada right now, what would it be?!
It’s actually a huge misconception that eBay is an auction marketplace. Over 80 per cent of the items listed are new and at a fixed price vs. auctions or bidding … but I think there is always a time and a place for bidding on certain auctions like designer pieces that are hard to find, or a limited-edition vintage piece. That said, I have my eye on this Nanushka satin wrap dress. Nanushka is a new emerging Budapest-based designer and it’s really exciting to see these offerings available on eBay.ca!
