This May, we’re honouring motherhood by chatting with some of our favourite mom bloggers, influencers and content creators about the highs, the lows and the many moments in-between. —Vita Daily
Hi Bianca! Tell us a little bit about you and what do you do!?
I’m a mom of three (plus a brand-new Dalmatian puppy). By day, I’m the assistant editor for WestCoast Families magazine, a freelance travel writer for publications such as the Vancouver Sun, Canadian Traveller and BC Living, a parenting columnist for Burnaby Now and New West Record newspapers, and a marketing consultant for my own company, Bee Communications. When I’m not scribing or spreading the word, I can be found exploring the beautiful outdoors of the North Shore where I call home.
How do you use your platform to impact other moms—and parents—who follow you?
I like to inspire travel with kids to lesser-known destinations, and try to encourage parents to consider both sides of an argument when addressing hot topics in the world of parenting. I want my readers to know that they are not alone as they navigate their way through the complicated and confusing stages of child rearing, and hope to provide a happy and uplifting perspective on life.
What’s your personal style/beauty mantra?
With three kids and a new puppy, comfort comes first for me, but that doesn’t mean that I have to sacrifice my style! If I can find an outfit that balances my own personal style with my desire to feel comfortable, then I’m happy. I find that if I feel good in what I’m wearing, my confidence shines through.
What would the Mother’s Day of your fantasies be? And what, in reality, does Mother’s Day usually look like at your house?
My perfect Mother’s Day would include sleeping in, enjoying a nice breakfast with my family, going for a walk and then heading out for a little "me" time—perhaps lunch with some friends, or a quiet afternoon of spa time or shopping. For dinner, I would return home and enjoy take-out and a movie with my family. Reality comes pretty close to my perfect day: my kids wake me up with gifts and breakfast in bed, and then we do something close to home as a family, usually a stroll along Ambleside or Cates Park.
Did motherhood come easy to you, or were there challenges (if so, any in particular you’d like to share)?
I’ve always wanted to be a mother, but I don’t think parenting truly comes easy to anyone. It takes a lot of patience, and trust in the process. I think as parents, we just need to do the best that we can, and hopefully our children will turn out to be good human beings. I think we’re all just winging it and hoping for the best!
The hardest thing about being a mom? The best thing?
Sleepless nights and sibling rivalries aside, I think the hardest thing about being a mom is the constant worry that I’m not doing it right. Raising children is such a huge responsibility, and it can be a trying role. The best thing? Watching the tiny humans that I’ve made grow into wonderful people—becoming their own individuals. Despite having the same set of parents, each of my children is so unique, yet they all impress and amaze me every day. Despite any challenges that we may face, it’s the unconditional love that makes it all worthwhile.
