Spring has finally sprung (with summer close on its heels) and we’re planning a series of quick, closer-to-home excursions that let us get away and refresh more often, all season long! In fact, a new Aeroplan survey shows the road trip or “mini break” is making a cool comeback, with almost three-quarters of Canadians saying they’ve taken a road trip in the past 12 months and another three-quarters planning one in the next year. To help its members plan the perfect getaway, Aeroplan has a nifty booking tool that allows them to book their hotel and car rental together—all in one easy-to-use online platform—and members can earn miles toward their next getaway. The best part? Aeroplan has shared info and advice to help us make the most of every mini break we take:
planning makes perfect. A little planning and prep can make all the difference between a successful or stressful journey—mini break or not. Aeroplan’s survey reveals only 12 per cent of Canadians like to “wing it” on a road trip; as many as 38 per cent prefer to schedule plans, including destinations and accommodations, in advance. To that end, we love travel expert and Globe Guide author Tamara Elliot’s advice: “To keep travel stress at a minimum on the road, plan as many of the big items as you can in advance, such as accommodations and car rentals. Especially during busy seasons, these can book up quickly. With the major items pre-booked, you can enjoy the journey and discover the rest as you go.”
renting a vehicle makes good cents. More than half of survey respondents have rented a car for past road trips (present company included). For Aeroplan members, renting a car also means an opportunity to earn more miles. Elliot’s insider tip: “Renting a car for the road trip can be a great option. It not only provides the opportunity to try out a new car model but helps you avoid the additional mileage on your own vehicle. If you’re renting a car for a road trip, consider one with enough space for all passengers to travel comfortably, and enough room for luggage, gear and the inevitable purchases that will be made on the trip.”
aeroplan can assist. Aeroplan’s easy-to-use booking tool makes it easy to plan and book your next mini break (read: car rentals and hotel stays, no matter how brief) while earning four Aeroplan Miles per dollar spent on all cash bookings toward another adventure—often enough for a short-haul flight reward! The simple booking process lets Aeroplan members book multiple items within the same cart, while rich imagery, TripAdvisor ratings, filtering and sorting options, and easy-to-view payment options make choosing a breeze! “Through our booking tool, members have the flexibility to book using either cash or miles and have access to increased hotel and car inventory," says Elizabeth Quinton, a managing director with Air Canada. "And, with the added-bonus of earning Aeroplan Miles on all cash bookings of hotels and cars, there’s no excuse not to hit the road!”
