No matter how much cajoling (and, if we’re being totally honest, dessert-based bribery) it takes to get our three-year-old to finish her broccoli, we wouldn’t give up eating dinner as a family for anything in the world. Among the many, many benefits we gain by breaking bread together daily: forming a deeper connection with each other, eating healthier meals and even positive early childhood development.
A recent national survey by President’s Choice® found that more than 50 per cent of Canadians eat more than two meals alone each day, but there’s still a desire to spend more time at the table and eat together.
Those are just some of the reasons that we’re proud to be celebrating the third annual Eat Together Day—an initiative by President’s Choice® focused on getting us all back to eating around the table together. Today, June 14th, 2019, Canadians from coast-to-coast across the country are invited to take part by attending a free barbecue at the store nearest them or, simply, asking a friend, relative or member of the community to join them for a meal. Be sure to share your #eattogether moment on social media and tag @preschoice; and join more than 450,000 Canadians who have already made a pledge to eat with their loved ones not only on Eat Together Day, but throughout the year.
We’ve made the pledge to do so in our home, giving us ample opportunity to spend quality time together—and, of course, work on the toddler-versus-broccoli situation! —Noa Nichol
