We (and by that we mean us and our fur babies) are super excited about the launch of Spot: a safe on-leash dog-walking service that happens to be Canada’s only on-demand dog-walking app, allowing dog owners to book private dog walks with verified walkers instantly from their smartphones.
Once the app is downloaded, the first dog walk is free and all walks are guaranteed within 90 minutes, or the service is free. Available in Calgary, Toronto, Edmonton, Victoria and, most recently, Vancouver, Spot has already provided more than 40,000 walks to happy dogs and owners without incident. It is an all-in-one solution for dog lovers who want to give their pets more exercise while ensuring the health and safety of their pet.
Here’s how it works: dog owners can choose to book walks on-demand or on a recurring basis. Each walk is private, with dogs being walked only on their own or with another dog from the same household. Spot is insured, and all of Spot’s walkers go through a criminal background check, with only one per cent of applicants making it through the interview process. Spot provides owners with a free key lockbox for home access, and all dog walks are GPS tracked so you can see your dog’s route. Walkers even report when he/she goes to the bathroom.
The best part? Spot donates 10 cents from every 10-minute walk to local animal rescues and shelters and has a goal of donating at least $5,000 each quarter to a different organization. Now that’s something to bark about! —Noa Nichol
