For well-heeled Canadians, setting foot in Gravitypope for the first time is like Cinderella trying on that glass slipper: a perfect fit. And now, in another match made in heaven, GP has teamed up with Marimekko.
The Finnish design brand recently launched its first streetwear collection, Marimekko Kioski, at kiosks inside Gravitypope stores across the country. The collection is filled with unisex items in Marimekko’s instantly recognizable prints. Front and centre is the classic Unikko poppy print, which first blossomed in 1964 thanks to artist Maija Isola, who ignored the company founder’s decree that Marimekko would never feature a flower pattern. Isola cheekily created a whole series of floral prints … and the rest is history. The Marimekko Kioski collection celebrates that spirit of creativity, covering tees, hoodies, caps, scrunchies and keychains with that cheerful poppy pattern or bold stripes. Chunky text is splashed across tote bags and socks, while cute polka dots adorn makeup bags and coin purses.
Upon seeing all these highly covetable items, we experienced love at first sight in a Gravitypope store—for the second time. —Sheri Radford
