Ami Boutique’s new partnership with Vancouver’s key stylist, Michelle Addison, has resulted in a fall style guide everyone can follow. Below, the former Nordstrom stylist dishes on five key seasonal trends that are topping her autumn fashion to-do list, showcasing pieces that are available exclusively at the West Vancouver retailer. —Vita Daily
belt with blazer or cardigan. You may already have both the blazer and the cardigan from last season, but this season we are adding a belt. Adding a belt to your look helps with all the bottom updates this season. The high-waisted pants, the mid-length skirts, the slightly cropped jeans, and even your favourite skinny jeans. They all look great with the addition of this often-overlooked accessory. Styling tip: wear with a slightly longer blazer and wrap blazer around mid-section. When wearing a cardigan best to wear a longer one that sits just below your behind and remember that you will have a slimmer look if you stay away from a “too chunky” sweater. In both looks, your under shirt should be light as to not cause bulk.
light pink for fall. Gone are the days of only dark colours for fall. This season you will be seeing light colours grace the streets around the globe. Light pink is no exception. I love that it adds a feminine touch, and gives us a reprieve from basic black. Which I’m not ever sick of, but if I was, I would rejoice at this trend. Speaking of black, my best styling tip for wearing pink and black is to add a third colour. I like wearing white or grey with light pink and black. It makes a significant “lighter approach”. Wearing light pink and blue jeans is an obvious great choice but if you are wanting to try something different try wearing it with khaki green.
snake print. Since we loved leopard and still love leopard it was only obvious that we needed to add some variance to our rotation of animal prints. Snake print is best in a beautiful blouse or even a great boot or clutch. The reason this print is fantastic to invest in, is that it is easy to add into a wardrobe of basics. If you wanted to save some money this season and just invest in one item, I would get a snake-print item of your choosing—mostly because you will be able to wear it in spring, too, which is always great for our bank accounts. It says “on-trend” and can be worn by boho’s and classics alike, crossing all realms of personal style.
faux fur. When you look up glamorous in the dictionary there should be a picture of a woman in a faux-fur coat looking fabulous … maybe there is? When I bring out my leopard faux-fur coat in the fall, I instantly feel excited about the cold weather. The best way to start the journey to faux fur is to incorporate this trend as an accessory—whether a handbag or a faux-fur neck scarf you can add some depth to your outfits by adding different textures. Wearing a chic faux-fur coat over your cocktail dress in party season is also a great way to make a statement entrance. Oh, and if you choose a pink faux-fur piece, well, you just entered the fifth dimension for fall 2019.
mid-length skirts. Nothing makes me more thrilled than knowing that I have something else in my closet that I can wear my favourite ankle boots with—other than jeans. The mid-length skirt is just that piece. Not only could you try this length in “light pink” or even “snake print” you could also round it out with wearing it with your long blazer and belt. Styling tip: if you are shorter in height I suggest wearing this length with a bit of a heel—whether a chunky pump or even a sleek ankle boot, or my favourite look of all, a tall suede boot. Beware of trying this length on in the store and cancelling it out as it looks “too long”—you will need to tailor to your height. Most stores will hem your skirt for free.
