Not so fast: Hudson’s Bay is joining forces with Courtney Quinn of Color Me Courtney, the quirky New York blogger and designer with a serious colour obsession, to shake up the brand’s beloved stripes. The new HBC Stripes + Color Me Courtney collab features 28 pieces including women’s apparel, outerwear, accessories and co-ordinating doggie apparel. We caught up with the colour queen herself to talk all things rainbow bright! —Noa Nichol
Hi Courtney! Tell us a bit about yourself to start.
Sure! I’m Courtney Quinn of the vibrant NYC-based fashion, lifestyle and culture blog Color Me Courtney! Color Me Courtney is the bright spot on the web that is dedicated to encouraging women to embrace their quirks, chase their dreams and dress outside the lines. I currently live in New York with my fiancé Paris, my French Bulldog Waffles and as you can probably guess … I have a life-long love of colour!
How did your recent collab with Hudson’s Bay come about? Why is it a natural fit for you?
The collaboration with Hudson’s Bay was very serendipitous! Hudson’s Bay is a timeless, heritage brand that shares my affinity for fashion and colour that I’ve been a fan of for quite some time. So when I had the opportunity to put my playful, Color Me Courtney twist on the brand’s iconic stripes, it was a natural and perfect fit—especially for the holidays!
What does your range with Hudson’s Bay consist of, and in what way does it shake up the brand’s beloved stripes?
The collaboration features 28 pieces, consisting of everything from stylish apparel and outerwear to the cutest accessories and giftables! I wanted to celebrate the magic of the holidays so we combined my quirky sense of style with the brand’s classic colours to update the Hudson’s Bay stripes with fun materials like lurex, sequins and faux fur. Ultimately, the goal was to create a really playful and vibrant collection that captures the joy of the season and provides the perfects gifts for you and your loved ones!
What’s your fave piece from the collection?
That’s a tough question! I love every piece from the collection for different reasons. On a dreary rainy day, the Color Me Courtney x Stripes Rainbow Umbrella provides a pop of colour to my wardrobe. On a cosy fall or winter night, I love snuggling up in my Stripes sweatsuit. From the cute mittens to the colourful faux-fur coats, I love all 28 pieces from the collection (and my dog Waffles loves his pieces, too!).
Considering your obsession with colour, how do different hues fit in to your life once the weather turns wintry?
The wonderful thing about colour is that it exists in our lives no matter the season! While spring and summer usually consist of pastels and brighter hues, the fall and winter give us an opportunity to play with more-rich colour palettes and sophisticated fabrics. Dressing colourfully in the winter is especially important to me because it helps to brighten your mood when it’s gloomy outside.
Top tips for incorporating more colour into our lives this winter?
When the weather gets colder, people tend to resort to a lot of greys and blacks. One easy way to incorporate more colour into your wardrobe is to add more vibrant accessories and statement pieces to pair with the basics and closet staples you already have. Whether it’s a colourful scarf, beanie, sweater, etc., a little pop of colour goes a long way!
