November 14, 2019

More and more people across the globe are embracing the idea of sustainability and actively looking at how they can change their lifestyle to ultimately lessen the impact their actions are having on the planet. The issue has become vital in areas like the beauty industry, while it is also undoubtedly high on the agenda in the world of fashion and clothing. In recent weeks, leading electronics and communications manufacturer LG became one of the latest major brands to speak out on the latter and call for us all to think about the use we are getting from our clothes.

#stillwearingit. Toward the end of October, LG Electronics Canada unveiled its #StillWearingIt campaign. The initiative is all about raising awareness of how people can get longer wear out of clothing with the right care, cutting down on waste in the process. As part of the launch, the company published the findings of a survey that found that 65 per cent of people in Canada think about the issue of waste when it comes to clothing. Furthermore, it found that 54 per cent of those polled tend to throw away items at least once a year. More than 8 out of 10 revealed they choose to donate clothing, while it was also found that those in British Columbia are more aware of textile waste than people in other parts of the country.

a growing issue. It may seem surprising to see an electronics company join the discussion on sustainable clothing, but LG has approached the issue from the angle that people can improve the longevity of clothes by having access to the right tools, including appliances and cleaning products. By taking this step, the company has become just the latest in a number of organizations to take action on the issue of sustainability in fashion. As this research on fast fashion compiled by Betway reveals, many major brands have looked to address the issue, for example, with Nike using materials including recycled polyester in its products.

Furthermore, the study highlights how Zara has pledged to cut its landfill waste to zero by 2025, while Adidas has taken steps including making its offices plastic-free.

taking care. Such activities highlight how sustainability in clothing has become a big issue in recent years and it is interesting to see a non-fashion brand like LG join the conversation surrounding the topic.
While we all love being able to refresh our wardrobe, perhaps it is time to think again and take a look at whether there are outfits you could be getting more out of with the right level of care.
