What originally launched as a pop-up burger menu at Commercial Drive’s popular (read: permanent lineup) Downlow Chicken Shack has found a fixed home from which to serve up its specialty patties on the reg, in The American on Main Street.
While classic beef, lettuce cheese editions are available (the Not in Kansas is big, beautiful and bourbony), Downlow Burgers also serves a variety of unique items, including a "faux pho" burger smothered with hoisin barbecue sauce, sriracha mayo and pickled daikon and carrot.
Side wise, order the shareable (or not) crispy cauliflower dipped in a Korean spicy sauce and yogurt, the fried dill pickle coins with can-be-made-vegan house ranch, and/or the pork belly bites: slow cooked, crispy fried and positively addictive. —Vicki Duong
