While we haven’t had snow at all in Vancouver (yet), everything else associated with winter in these parts is in full force: think dreary, incessant rain and dry, patchy skin that just can’t seem to stop itching. And while we can’t do much about the weather, we can do something about the latter. Here, some skin-care remedies for face, lips and body that we swear by. —Isabel Ong
lip service. Give your pucker extra-special care with Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask in Berry ($26). This leave-on mask contains hyaluronic acid and minerals that form a protective layer to lock in moisture. We love how it melts away immediately into lip cracks and lines when applied, and how soft our lips feel the next day. Bonus: it boasts a sweet, fruity scent.
flake off. Exfoliating regularly in winter helps to slough off dead skin cells and encourage skin renewal. Our go-to: Fresh’s Sugar Face Polish Exfoliator ($80), which pulls double duty as a scrub and a mask thanks to ingredients like brown sugar (that removes dry skin) and grapeseed oil (that hydrates and nourishes).
squeaky clean. Don’t neglect your bod when it comes to exfoliating, either. Shower time will be a lot more pampering with the heaven-scented Coco Rose Body Polish ($47) by Herbivore Botanicals, with moisturizing virgin coconut oil and a subtle Moroccan rose scent.
blue’s clues. A purifying clay mask that warms the skin at the same time? Sign us up! Biore’s Blue Agave + Baking Soda Instant Warming Clay Mask ($10) has a unique self-heating technology that’s activated when you massage it onto skin, and is the perfect deep-clean fix for oily, clogged pores. Your complexion will feel ultra soft and smooth immediately after, too.
spritz it on. Aesop’s Immediate Moisture Facial Hydrosol ($31) is ideal for stashing in your handbag or backpack for on-the-go dry skin treatment throughout the day. We’re also partial to its refreshing citrus-floral scent.
rosy glow. We have a thing for face oils, and Kosmea Skincare’s Certified Organic Rosehip Oil ($27) is another product we’re adding to our regular skin-care lineup. Besides its soothing and hydrating properties, it helps to protect and repair skin, and is made with 100 per cent organic ingredients.
hands down. Cle de Peau Beaute’s Hand Cream ($98) is, in our books, the crème de la crème of moisturizing hand creams. Formulated to moisturize and brighten skin and soften cuticles, our digits always look and feel smoother and more nourished after application.
buttery soft. One post-shower step you should never neglect if you want to prevent flaky, itchy skin: moisturize daily from the neck down (yes, cracked heels and cold toes included). Reach for Jergens’ Ultra Care Restoring Argan Moisturizer ($11), which comes with Moroccan argan oil and vitamin E to keep skin hydrated 24-7.
