Well into Veganuary (you know, January, without the meat), we’re doing well on our personal challenge to include more plant-based foods in our diets. Something that’s really helped are products from our friends at The Meatless Farm Co.—a brand that’s looking to help Canadians reduce meat consumption in an environmentally friendly and healthy way. The Meatless Farm products, including patties, ground and sausages, are 100 per cent plant-based and made using the highest-quality, non-GMO ingredients available. And, using its signature ground product, The Meatless Farm has created a “chili non-carne” kit, challenging consumers to hide that it’s meatless and see if they can convince family and friends. Try making it at home using the recipe below, and see if you can "fool" your clan (and please those who don’t eat meat, to boot)! —Vita Daily
Chili Non Carne (Serves 4; Ready in 1 Hour)
1 (400 g) package Meatless Farm Meat Free Ground
1 onion, diced
1/2 (14 oz) can chopped tomatoes (or fresh equivalent)
1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
1 tbsp cumin
1 tbsp chili powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp paprika
1/2 (14 oz) can kidney beans
1/2 cup water
Heat a large saucepan over medium heat, add the oil. Add the meat-free ground and cook for 8-10 minutes, breaking up into pieces, until browned. Add the onion and vegetables of your choice. Cook until soft, about 3 minutes. Reduce heat to medium-low. Add the tomatoes, tomato sauce, spices and 1 cup water. Mix to combine. Add the kidney beans, mix and bring to a simmer. Cover and cook for 30 minutes.
