With Valentine’s Day just around the corner and shopping locally on our minds, making picks for romantic Canadian-made gifts was a no-brainer. Whether it’s s bottle of bubbly or gifts for the boudoir, our favorite Valentine must-haves are both sweet and sustainable. —Jeanine Gordon
something sexy. Lingerie is a classic Valentine’s gift and Calgary-based Sewn Designs serves up the prettiest pieces to spoil someone special with. We love the Merlot lingerie set ($58 for the bra and $18 for the thong) for its handmade-in-Canada quality and the oh-so-lovely lace.
something sweet. Valentine chocolates can often be cliché, but not when they’re made by CXBO Chocolates. These Toronto-made confections look too good to eat—almost. This year, we’re lusting after the Signature Collection box ($24), with gourmet flavours like orange blossom and honey, and raspberry rose fennel.
something to sip. What’s Valentine’s Day without a romantic dinner? Whether you’re cooking up a spicy dish, ordering sushi, or savouring chocolates, the 2013 Vintage Bub from Haywire ($39 at BC Liquor Stores) makes the perfect companion. Enjoy the aromatic notes as you pop a bottle to share with your sweetheart.
something sparkly. We can’t help but fall head-over-heels for this Cupid-inspired Heart & Arrow necklace ($470 from Melanie Auld). This 14-karat solid gold-and-diamond beauty is dainty and delicate—enough to stand on its own or as a perfect layering piece.
something silky. We’re dropping heavy hints that the Salish Sea short kimono robe ($295) from Birds Of Paradise is at the top of our V-Day wish list. Between the luxe silk charmeuse fabric, supporting a Vancouver female-founded business and the fact that all pieces are ethically made in Canada, what’s not to love?
