The Opera is On (Win! The Barber of Seville Tickets!)

February 5, 2020

While it’s definitely exciting that the Vancouver Opera is bringing The Barber of Seville to Vancouver, we feel it is our duty to warn you: there will only be four chances to see this fun and frivolous show at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

With performances happening on February 13th, 15th and 20th at 7:30 p.m. and on February 23rd at 2 p.m., we’re chomping at the bit to catch Gioachino Rossini’s hilarious masterpiece, which was first performed at Rome’s Teatro Argentina in 1816. Combining mischievous antics involving theft, secret notes, disguises and bribery all in the pursuit of true love alongside memorable melodies, Vancouver Opera’s production of The Barber of Seville stars Edward Nelson in the role of Figaro, assisting Count Almaviva—tenor Isaiah Bell—in his pursuit of Rosina, mezzo- soprano Julie Boulianne. Also among the talented principal cast: Canadian bass-baritone Thomas Goerz as Dr. Bartolo, South Korean baritone Taehyn Jun as Don Basilio, Canadian baritone Nicholas Borg as Fiorello and mezzo-soprano Gena van Oosten as Berta.

Don’t speak Italian? Don’t worry! While The Barber of Seville is sung in Italian, English SURTITLES will be projected above the stage. Perfetto! —Vita Daily
