Hot Shop: Shabby Rabbit

February 14, 2020

When Bernadette “Bunny” Doyle opened her first retail venture, it was with the sole purpose of carrying one-of-a-kind, completely natural, naturally dyed and never chemically treated clothing by a brand based in Fredericksburg, Texas, called Magnolia Pearl.

“The women who wear Magnolia Pearl are of all sizes and ages,” says Doyle, whose first Shabby Rabbit Clothing boutique is located at 2225 Oak Bay Avenue in Victoria, B.C. “They are generally creative women with a love of natural textiles and are not afraid to express themselves through a very different kind of clothing.”

Fast-forward three years, and Doyle entered the Vancouver market with her second shop, at 3666 West 4th Avenue. Along with the original store, Shabby Rabbit continues to be the exclusive stockist of Magnolia Pearl in the Vancouver and Victoria areas … however, the boutiques now carry a variety of unique clothing lines, including April Cornell (a Canadian designer and painter whose fabric prints all begin as paintings and who makes beautiful and affordable ladies’ wear and nightgowns, as well as home linens) and Grizas (a Lithuanian company that makes glorious linen and silk garments).

“It is a bit more conservative than Magnolia Pearl, but complements it beautifully,” Doyle says of Grizas. “We carry other lines, too, but there are too many to mention! I encourage everyone to come into our lovely shop to see them all and give them a try.”
