Yes, spring will come eventually—and we’ve got a seasonal lingerie trends report from our friends at Linea Intima to prove it! We chatted with Linea Intima owner Liliana Mann about the top upcoming trends: think high-tech design sports bras, pretty natural silhouette bralettes, tantalizing shades of orange and lush floral patterns, sexy swimwear and intimates with savvy streetstyle. —Vita Daily
Hi Liliana! What makes you a lingerie expert?!
I’ve had a love affair with lingerie all my life thanks to my mother, who taught me that lingerie was the most important part of my wardrobe. She inspired a love for lingerie in me and an appreciation for properly fitted high-quality intimates. Lingerie was my retail therapy … it was my go-to. With my background as an architect and my understanding of fabrics, fit and style (thanks to years as the owner of Romantic Nights, a luxury sleepwear brand), I am the most knowledgeable in my field.
What would you say are the top three to five spring 2020 lingerie trends among Linea Intima’s stock of brands?
After the grey of winter, spring comes out with the burst of colour that we always anticipate and love. In Linea Intima stock, you will find a lot of vivid mood-boosting colours—the most important this season being shades of orange, like coral, mango and also pineapple. There are also a lot of dainty florals prints.
What’s new in sports bras that you’re especially excited about?
Physical well-being is a top lifestyle trend (and often a personal resolution come the spring months) and we’re seeing a lot of brands introducing sports bras—many with high-tech design elements. 2020 sports bras are made of light-as-a-feather fabrications and innovative materials that make exercising much more pleasurable because they provide incredible support without sacrificing comfort.
How about new-ness in the bralette category (and any tips for those of us who think we can’t wear them)?
Bralettes have become a much stronger category and there is a demand for all sizes (and ages), and we were happy to find more brands adding them in their offerings. From very plain microfibre or cotton all the way to lacey beautiful seductive bralettes. The bralette trend is important because it taps into body positivity, inclusion and authenticity and provides a natural, gentler, wire-free fit. Even those who think they can’t wear them, actually can—because the best new styles are cleverly designed to provide surprisingly serious support.
Your favourite new colour trend for spring, and why?
Coral is my favourite colour for the spring. It looks good on every skin coloiur and I find that when I put it on in the morning—makeup or not—it gives you a boost of energy!
Any advice around new (bold) ways to wear our lingerie this year?
As always, lingerie is the most important part of your wardrobe; it makes or breaks any look. So forget about the seamless bra, forget about not showing your bra and making it disappear under clothes. Look at your bras for support and self-confidence—don’t be afraid to wear it so it shows. Pretty straps, embellished cups and "look at me" colours are meant to be seen and celebrated. There are also at-home loungewear styles like the kimono that looks fabulous paired with your fave jeans—so wear it out for drinks on a patio (don’t keep it hidden for only lounging at home).
How about swimwear? What’s new?
I think this year is the best season I have seen in swimwear for a while. It feels like every brand out did themselves and I had a tough time making the selections for Linea’s swim collection because everything is so beautiful in relation to both colour and design. You can’t beat a high-quality, European designed swimsuit for a fabulous body-shaping fit. And keep an eye on the return of the ’80s tankini!
We know that Marie Jo is celebrating a big anniversary this year! Can you tell us about the brand’s special-edition bra?
Marie Jo is 100 years old, and besides throwing an amazing fashion show and party in Paris (which I was very proud to be invited to) they are offering their iconic Avero bra in a beautiful colourway called Festive.
