Hi Lorraine! Please tell us a bit about your shoe-designing self to start!
Hello! I’m Lorraine, the founder of Taffystep! I come from a family that has been in the shoe industry for over 30 years, and have been a shoe lover since I was born.
When and why did you launch Taffystep? Meaning behind the name?
Taffystep was launched in March 2020. When I graduated from school and was entering the professional world I found there was a gap in the market. I wanted work-friendly shoes that were versatile enough to wear out at night but also comfortable, stylish and budget-friendly. Taffystep was born to make shoes that are sweet for your feet. That’s where the playful name comes from.
Why vegan leather? And how does it compare to the other stuff?
The upper of our shoes are made of vegan leather that combines microfibers and quality polyurethane to create a more durable leather alternative. This material is soft, lightweight, breathable, flexible and water-resistant, plus it requires less water usage compared to animal leather. We also use durable eco-friendly rubber soles and add extra padding to each insole. We design our shoes to be comfortable and sustainable that you can wear for a long period of time and sweet for the environment.
Why do you (and why should we) consider these the perfect shoes? What makes Taffystep shoes unique to other footwear out there?
Our shoes have the right balance of comfort, style and affordability. Our clean aesthetic with comfortable, fun and cute design details allow you to wear them for any occasion with many different outfits.
How and why do you support your community through your business?
As we strongly believe that all women deserve to feel empowered and confident, partial proceeds go toward local charities that support gender equality and women’s leadership.
What pair of Taffysteps are you currently rocking on repeat?!
The Smartie Mules (both colours)! I love just slipping on them when I want to look cute and stylish to cheer myself up for a grocery run and neighbourhood walk.
