peak 1: eagle bluffs, 1,100 step-ups. If you are looking for a shorter hike with moderate climbing—that doesn’t skimp on the views—Eagle Bluffs in West Vancouver is the one! Be prepared to guard your lunch at the summit from the chipmunks that run rampant.

peak 2: st. mark’s summit, 1,500 step-ups. St. Mark’s Summit is the perfect mix of challenge and views. At 11-km roundtrip, it is shorter than other challenging hikes, but full of spectacular views. On a clear day, hikers can see Howe Sound, the Tantalus Mountain Range, Gulf Islands, and Vancouver Island.

peak 3: grouse grind, 2,830 step-ups. Vancouver’s infamous Grouse Grind is a must-do for any local or visitor. Nicknamed Mother Nature’s Stair Climber, the grind quickly climbs 850 metres over 3 km. Fortunately, those who complete it can take the gondola down!

peak 4: coliseum mountain, 4,080 step-ups. The hike to Coliseum Mountain in North Vancouver is rugged and strenuous—23.5 km and 10 hours roundtrip. But those who reach the summit are rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.

peak 5: black tusk, 5,700 step-ups. The hike to Black Tusk is challenging and long but considered one of the most spectacular mountains in Garibaldi Provincial Park. Close to 30 km and 11 hours roundtrip, many complete the hike over two days. You will hike through alpine flower meadows, above turquoise-coloured Garibaldi Lake, and scramble your way to the top where unbeatable scenery awaits.
