Art has the power to bring together individuals, communities and cultures. Although their physical spaces may be temporarily closed, art galleries around the world are finding new ways to connect. We’ve rounded up 3 of our favourite local galleries offering tours, activities and workshops open to everyone, no matter where you may be located. —Lyndi Barrett
vancouver art gallery. Art Connects in an initiative created by the team at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Every Tuesday and Friday, the gallery will host a series of live streams featuring various interactive sessions, with guests from local and international arts communities. Everyone is invited to join through Zoom, and the sessions are recorded so you can view them after at your leisure.
museum of anthropology. #MOAFromHome has been created to showcase various ways to connect to this First Nations-focused museum. You can "walk" through the museum in a 360-degree virtual tour of the Great Hall, explore the archives and watch videos that highlight different exhibitions, artists and storytellers. You can even connect with the team and ask an expert. If you have an artwork or object at home that you’ve always wondered about, connect through Ask MOA: What Is It? and let pro curators and collections staff offer their expertise.
arts umbrella. Since we won’t be able to celebrate Arts Umbrella‘s Annual Arts Festival in person this year, the team has pivoted to share the experience online via a photography exhibit entitled Locations: Past Present and Future, along with virtual tours, video content and various online programs.
