And it’s not different this spring. We chatted with Maybelline’s lead artist Grace Lee about the hottest eye trends coming up for this season (hello winged liner and dual-tone shadow) and how to use the beauty brand’s products to perfect them at home. —Vita Daily

Hi Grace! Please tell us a bit about yourself to start!

I’ve been a makeup artist for over 24 years. I’ve been the Maybelline lead artist for Canada for eight years and I work a lot in NYC as well. I juggle having a career and a family. (Two kids and a new puppy!)

Maybelline is often called "everybody’s favourite drugstore brand"—how do you think it’s achieved this (in our opinion, completely true) status?

I 100 per cent believe this and I’m not being biased! It’s because they have the pulse on what consumers need and what is trending in beauty, then deliver products that are amazing in quality and are still affordable! Maybelline also has some cult-following products that just cannot be beat in the market. For example, FIT Me Foundation was the first-ever drugstore brand to offer 40 shades. The Instant Age Rewind Concealer is the number 1 concealer. The longwear products like Superstay Matte Ink Lipsticks are a favourite among makeup artists, celebrities and performers because they do not come off (seriously). The mascaras are amazing and, c’mon, Maybelline’s Great Lash Mascara is still so iconic!

On to the spring looks! Winged liner: what makes this technique timeless, and how do you recommend we best achieve it at home with Hyper Easy Liner by Maybelline?

It really helps longate the eyes. It can help define and make your eyes look bigger as well. The Hyper Easy Liner is so easy to use because of the flex tip and fine point of the liner. Start with small strokes and work your way out. You can build to make the line bigger. And you can also clean up with a pointed qtip if needed. But the liner is so easy that you probably won’t need it.

We’ve noticed, among other rising beauty trends, dual-tone eyeshadow causing a stir. Can you give us some tip on recreating this look ourselves using Maybelline products?

If you use an emollient-based eyeshadow like the Colour Tattoo, apply that over your eyelids first and then you can sweep a powder-based eyeshadow on top. If they are two different colours, then you can create that dual-tone effect!

Besides our own observations, what do you see emerging as son key spring beauty trends?

For spring, I always think rethinking your bright lip is a great way to start spring. It’s so fresh and pretty!

Final question: in this time of #socialdistancing, what does your daily Maybelline beauty routine look like/consist of? What key products have you been rocking at home?

I always use baby lips. It’s a staple for my lips and I also use it for my cuticles. If I need to do a Zoom meeting or FT, I’ll put on some Instant Age Rewind Concealer and a sweep of Cheek Heat—cuz I love blush!
