Weddings may look a bit different going forward but, if you are ready to tie the knot in Vancouver this summer, we’ve caught wind of a new, unique venue and planning service that could have you covered (#socialdistancing in mind). We chatted with event-planner extraordinaire Aly Armstrong about her new partnership with an exquisite venue, Groveland Estate, to get the full 411. —Noa Nichol
Hi Aly! Please tell us a bit about yourself/your work to start.
Hi! I own a wedding and events company in Vancouver. I’ve been in the industry since 2007 and launched my own company in 2012. We focus on luxury weddings and media/PR events in addition to tradeshows and conferences.
What/where is Groveland Estate? Is it a private home or an exclusive event venue?
Groveland Estate is a stunning privately owned property in the British Properties. It is set on a private lake and is truly a serene setting. You also get epic views of the ocean and downtown Vancouver from the front yard.
How did your partnership with Groveland Estate come about?
I formed a relationship with Groveland Estate back in 2016 when Monika Hibbs and I were planning a baby shower for Jillian Harris. We wanted to find a gem of a property to host the event and I came across the house then. They kindly agreed to rent it to us and our relationship has continued since. Earlier this year I spoke with the estate representative about utilizing the home for intimate events. The property is like no other in Vancouver. It’s quiet, magical and has a southern vibe. After a fun brainstorming session, Groveland Estate Weddings was born! I saw an opportunity to offer the beautiful property to couples whose original weddings plans have been disrupted due to COVID-19. Groveland Estate, however, does not feel like a plan B. It offers the intimacy to host outdoors weddings while following the current mandates.
What makes Groveland a perfect wedding (or other event) venue? And what makes it unique/stand out from other existing venues?
The moment I laid eyes on the property, I knew it was special. Esthetically, it’s perfect. But, more importantly, the serenity is what makes it an incredible choice for an intimate ceremony. The beautiful manicured lawn is where we will host the dinner reception. The southern antebellum style of the home makes for a gorgeous backdrop and photos. The lake is home to wildlife and it’s a very quiet and peaceful place.
Considering COVID-19 and social-distancing measures, what will the offerings be this summer from Groveland Estate and yourself?
We have implemented safe protocols that our select vendor team will strictly adhere to. All decor and rentals will remain on property and will be thoroughly cleaned before and after each use. White Table Catering has done an exceptional job creating a meal-service plan and has been working closely with our MLAs to establish protocols. Both the ceremony and dinner will be hosted outside. We will seat guests by household or social circle with no more than six per table. We will have six-feet between each table. Each table will be impeccably decorated with luxury details. We want to keep guests safe without compromising the look and ambience of the event. A professional cleaning company will remain on site for the duration of each event to wipe down all surfaces regularly.
Who are some of the other vendors you’ll be partnering with this summer?
White Table Catering is our exclusive caterer. Koncept Event Design and Winstons Table Curation will provide decor and flowers, and my team is involved with the design and styling. We have an exclusive partnership with Blush Wedding Photography as well, who has kindly offered a special rate for Groveland Estate only should a couple require a photographer.
If you could do YOUR wedding all over again, why might you choose Groveland Estate as your perfect venue?!
I would host my own wedding at Groveland Estate in a heartbeat! And it’s perfect for a more intimate event. I’ve personally hosted a couple of events there due to my relationship with the estate. Guests are always blown away when they drive up and walk onto the beautiful property. And the photos are magical due to the many picturesque backdrops.
What are you offering for this summer, and how can interested couples find out more?
Due to COVID restrictions, I’ve curated two inclusive packages for 2020. The maximum guest count is 50 based on the guidelines set forth by the Province of British Columbia. Couples can book the home and backyard for three hours or six. The three-hour timeframe is conducive to a ceremony and champagne toast; the six-hour timeframe includes ceremony, a champagne toast and a three-course dinner with wine pairings. We’re also excited to announce that the property will be available for 2021 weddings as well. Email your inquiries to grovelandestate@alyarmstrongevents.com.
