Chef Hidekazu Tojo of Vancouver’s Tojo’s Restaurant is honouring his late friend Anthony Bourdain with a special offering that calls attention to depression and mental health.
Since his passing, fellow chefs and fans worldwide have recognized his birthday, June 25th, as Bourdain Day. Tojo is celebrating by creating a commemorative omakase experience—the menu will feature items Bourdain tried during a visit to Tojo’s along with seasonal specialties and Anthony-approved plates (among them, the same West Coast Tuna Toro Nigiri Bourdain called "a religious experience," Tempura Fried Zucchini Blossom stuffed with fish mousse, Dungeness Crab Salad and Smoked Sablefish Nigiri).
At $150 per person, 15 per cent of proceeds from each dinner will be donated to Mind the Bar, a local initiated non-profit mental health resource and support system for hospitality workers. —Vita Daily
