Hi Elizabeth! Please tell us a bit about yourself to start.
My name is Elizabeth Margles and I am the VP of marketing for Caesarstone. We’re all spending a little extra time in our homes (and our kitchens) lately, which may also mean more mess. In what ways is quartz a durable surface choice (in terms of being easy to care for and scratch and stain resistant, not to mention sophisticated and timeless)?
Caesarstone is made of quartz, which is more durable than other materials as it is resistant to cracks, scratches and stains. It’s easy to clean and care for which keeps surfaces looking as good as they did when they were first installed!
Rumour has it, since quartz doesn’t need to be sealed and is non-porous, it doesn’t hold as much dirt or bacteria as other common surfaces—which means less germs! Can you tell us more about this?
Caesarstone is NOT sealed and is non-porous, meaning the material hinders fluid absorption. This protects the quartz surfaces from cleaning and cooking to keep it looking as beautiful as the day you got it! We suggest cleaning on a regular basis as this will avoid the excessive build-up of patina. Caesarstone is designed to acquire a natural patina which adds to the character of the surface yet remains easy to clean and maintain.
What types of things could or do tend to impact or damage a quartz surface?
Using harsh chemicals or sharp objects directly on the quartz surface can still damage your countertops. If your surface is exposed to harsh chemicals or becomes damaged, rinse it immediately with water to neutralize the effect.
What are your top day-to-day tips to care for and keep quartz clean?
For daily care, clean the surface using mild, non-abrasive soap and water or a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water. Rinse with warm water after use and dry with soft cloth or paper towel. It’s that easy!
How about some advice on cleaning up larger spills, stains and rust spots?
We suggest using 100 per cent alcohol (methyl hydrate) to spot clean. Apply to a cloth and let it sit on the stain for 30 seconds and wipe away. For more stubborn stains just repeat these steps. Make sure to rinse your surface with warm water after use and dry with a soft cloth or paper towel.
Your favourite cleaning products to use on quartz?
Vim with Bleach, 70 per cent ethanol, isopropyl alcohol or antibacterial dish soap are everyday disinfectants that will take care of all those germs and bacteria. Also, Bar Keepers Friend is great for those stubborn stains!
What are definite no-nos when it comes to cleaning and caring for quartz?
When it comes to caring for your quartz, it’s best to avoid using sharp objects such as knives or screwdrivers directly on the surface. We always recommend using a cutting board. When it comes to cleaning your quartz, it’s best to avoid exposing your quartz to strong chemicals and solvents such as, oven grill cleaners, paint removers/strippers, dishwasher detergent, toilet bowl cleaners, tarnish remover, furniture cleaners, drain products, etc. If you still need help you can always contact out customer care department for detailed instructions on how to best clean your Caesarstone.
