This summer, Granville Island Broom Co. marked 10 years of making fine handcrafted brooms in Vancouver. To celebrate this milestone, artisans Mary and Sarah Schwieger announced that they’ve joined 1% for the Planet and, from now on, have pledged to donate one per cent of their revenues toward environmental causes.
“We have been through a lot in 10 years, and it has given us time to reflect on the past decade and how we wish to move forward,” says Mary. Sarah adds, “[This pledge] reflects our continued desire to prioritize sustainability and take on more responsibility for the environment.”
Though the COVID-19 pandemic has been hard on small businesses like Granville Island Broom Co., this is a good reminder about the importance of supporting local and the impact of positive actions. —Vita Daily
