A favourite among Canadians, Quo Beauty has recently revamped its brand, adding more than a thousand new products (all cruelty free) at truly accessible price points. To celebrate, it’s partnered with Hung Vanngo, makeup artist and recipient of the Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards in 2019 for MUA of the Year, to create a new campaign. We recently caught up with Hung to learn all about the collab, and find out what trends he’s loving for winter. —Vicki Duong
Hi Hung! First off, tell us about yourself!
My name is Hung Vanngo and I am a makeup artist currently based in NYC! I was born in Vietnam and moved to Canada when I was a child and lived in Canada up until 2006 when I moved to NYC. I am active on social media, with YouTube and Instagram being my favourite way to share my work.
Tell us about creating looks for the Quo Beauty campaign.
For each of the looks I focused on one main feature and one bright product. For eyes I used a bright liner and then kept the lips more muted. Then I used a bright red lip for one look and kept the eye muted. If a look was blush focused, I kept both the eye and lip more muted. I tried to focus on one thing. So essentially, an eye look, a blush look or a lip look.
Which Quo products do you love or find the most versatile?
I would have to say the QUO Beauty Featherweight Cream Blush because you can use it as a lipstick, an eyeshadow and as a blush. It’s ultra-lightweight and blends easily for a natural and fresh glow.
What beauty trends are popping up this season that you love? What about as we head into 2021?
I love the look in the Quo Beauty YouTube video I just created to help you recreate the fox eye beauty trend. Popular on social media, the fox eye trend showcases a lifted bronzed smoky eye perfect for day or night. For 2021 trends, this isn’t exactly a trend, but I encourage people to wear and use more colour. I think it’s great for people to play with colour more. It’s a great way to give more life to your face.
What is your go-to beauty look these days?
This is tough because I do all the looks! I’m an eye-look person—I always go for an eye look.
