Wearing a fabulous silver lamé suit to tyhe 2020 American Music Awards, makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan was inspired to do a bold, colourful, Debbie Harry-inspired eye on Cara Delevingne using makeup by Dior. Here, Kelsey explains how she achieved the songstress’ look:
“Cara’s skin is naturally beautiful, but it’s always important to properly hydrate the face to ensure makeup lay on top as seamlessly as possible. To hydrate the skin, I applied the Diorsnow Illuminiating Cloud Cream all over the face and décolletage. This cream leaves the skin fresh and targets oily areas to reduce the unwanted shine, but leaves an overall radiant glow.
“To begin makeup, I applied a thin veil of the Dior Forever Skin Glow in a mixture of shades 1 neutral and 1.5 neutral, using the Dior Backstage Full Coverage Fluid Foundation brush #12 for flawless, even coverage. To brighten under the eyes, I applied the Dior Forever Skin Correct #2cr.
“I lightly dusted the Dior Rouge Blush Golden Nights collection limited edtition #353 Rose Frisson along the apples of the cheeks and up toward the outer corners of the eyes to add a hint of colour to her cheeks. To intensify the colour, I used the bottom left colour from the Dior 5 Couleurs Couture #879 Rouge Trafalgar.
“For the eyes, I used the Dior 5 Couleurs Couture #159 Plum Tulle and #879 Rouge Trafalgar. I started with a combination of the top left and bottom left colours from the #879 palette all over the lid and up to the brow bone, followed by centre colour from the #159 Plum Tulle palette in the crease and slightly outward to follow her natural eye shape. To add a bit more drama to the outer eye, I added the bottom right colour from the #159 Plum Tulle palette right at the top lash line and below the bottom lash line. To finish the eyes, I added a couple generous coats of the Diorshow mascara #090 pro black.
“Cara’s natural brows need very little perfecting, but I used the Diorshow brow styler #002 universal dark brown to fill in any sparse areas and enhance shape. As a finishing touch, I used the Rouge Dior #548 Coral Mood to create a beautiful contrast from eye colour to lip colour.” —Kelsey Deenihan
