Hi Jasmine! Please tell us a bit about yourself to start.

From as far back as I can remember, I have always had a love for all things girly and sparkling, and certainly creating art. I have been a freelance makeup artist for more than 20 years now and could not imagine doing anything else. It is creative, social and truly fulfilling! I specialize in bridal and editorial makeup and run my own team of artists under the Blue Jasmine Beauty Group banner. I started fresh out of the makeup artist program at Vancouver Film School; first worked in the retail sector for beauty brands such as Laura Mercier, while doing makeup for local celebrities in film and TV production. Then, eight years ago, I saw an opportunity to be an entrepreneur full time and that is when I started my business as a freelance makeup artist and wedding specialist.

How do you use your platform to impact those who follow you?

I actively use my platform to inspire my clients with my true love of beauty, fashion and art. One of my favourite ways to do that is via collaboration bridal-style shoots, that we’re quite fortunate to often have been featured in magazines and blogs around the globe.

What’s your personal style/beauty mantra?

I love a very feminine style. I wear dresses and Louboutins every day. One of the designers that I love is LoveShackFancy: their dresses are all pretty floral silk, lace and pink. For makeup, I love to have all glow! I feel like as you get older, highlights, sunscreen and good skin care will keep you young. For that, I love using the Jefferee Star highlighters—they have a very pretty sparkle to them, and I use them on my cheek bones, tip of my nose and on my eyes as a shadow. For sunscreen and skin care I use the ZO Skin from The Vanity Lab.

You’re one of the sparkliest people we know (case in point: we know you had to delay your wedding due to COVID-19, but it seems like you’ve managed to stay pretty positive about it)! What do you think makes a personality (like yours) shine?

Unfortunately, we had to move our dream Italy wedding to 2021. Fingers crossed we will be able to travel to Italy during that time next year. I believe staying positive during this year is more important than ever before; at the end of the day, we are all in this together, and for that, we will get through it together, too. Mental health and resiliency are key; and for those that were impacted by the pandemic in their jobs and profession, this is a great time for reflection and seeking those few things that give you joy and inspire your mindset. I am quite lucky to have a good support system with my family, fiancé and friends, and that inspired me to find my new love for cooking and rosé (of course), which sparks more editorial-style shoot ideas to do with my wedding industry friends!

As a makeup artist, what are some of your favourite sparkly/glittery beauty products for this holiday season, and any tips on wearing glitter?

I am the glitter queen! I am obsessed with the Stila Glitter and Glow Shadow in Kitten Karma and the One/Size Liquid Glitter shadows in P-house and Death Drop. Both are super easy to apply and stay all day without fallout. You can tap these onto nude shadows, wear alone or just apply with a thin brush as a liner.

What are some of your top social “glitter” filters?!

On Instagram I love the Caramelow filter and the Snapchat sparkle freckles.

What’s your favourite thing about the holiday season?

I always love the glitz and glam, dressing up for Christmas parties and winter galas, but also spending time with good friends and family. I love wearing sequins and velvet with extra-glam makeup—it is always such a fun time of the year.

How will you be spending the holidays this year? Any special/fun traditions that happen annually at your home?

This year will be a lot different than the past years with my fiancé. For Christmas we usually like to travel; last year we were in New York and the year before that in Mexico. This year I would love to spend some time in Whistler and enjoy the snow and mulled wine. Every year, I love to decorate my Christmas tree in pink sparkling ornaments that I collect from The Cross Decor & Design in Yaletown; they are one of the best stores to shop for all your Christmas trimmings!

What’s your top holiday 2020 product pick, and why?

I actually have two gift picks: one is jewelry from Elsa Corsi at Jeweliette Jewellery. She is one of my favourite local designers, who has been designing for more than 20 years. Elsa has custom pieces that range from $30 to $600-plus, and they make a perfect gift for yourself or someone special. My other top gift idea is a Voluspa candle. I am obsessed with the new rose collection; the rose petal ice cream edition that comes in Rose Colored Glasses is my favourite. It has a soft sweet floral scent with the most beautiful pink shimming packaging that makes it a perfect gift under $50. I like to get mine from Bisou Bridal.
