When goldsmith Ivana Walker couldn’t find the exact handbag she desired (even after perusing the Versace boutique in Italy!) she decided to take matters into her own hands.

After learning the craft of leathermaking in Texas, she returned to Toronto and, in 2018, launched Anavi Designs, creating gorgeous, one-of-a-kind custom bags for clients from her St. Clair storefront (and via video calls with customers across Canada). Perfectly balanced between fashionable and utilitarian, these totes, clutches, cross-bodies, messengers and more take every last detail of a client’s needs, wants and lifestyle—from the items they plan to carry to the materials they wish to use to the right length of chain and style of strapping for maximum comfort—into account.

“We can even incorporate an heirloom or special piece of jewelry into the design to make it special and personal,” Ivana says. “Ultimately, I want everyone to have their own unique bag.”

Anavi’s range also includes collections of pre-created bags that, of course, can be customized upon request. We love the options in the Classic Collection, like the Honey tote ($268), and the colourful vegan hipsacks ($95).
