This Year Get Your Christmas Meal To Go

Some of Vancouver’s best restaurants are offering take-home holiday meal kits, and we are beyond stoked. Most of us have been non-stop cooking for months at home, and it’s getting well, a little tired. (Plus, it’s a great way to support local restaurateurs, who have been hit hard by the pandemic.) Here’s who is doing what and, psst, it’s not all about turkey dinner. —Catherine Dunwoody

wedgewood hotel’s bacchus restaurant. The downtown hotel’s brand new 12 Days of Christmas offerings are take-home heat-and-serve dishes made for two to six people including Coq au Vin Blanc(from $72 for two), Balsamic Glazed Boneless Beef Shank (from $80 for two) and Lamb Shanks Kokkinisto (from $88). Place your order 24 hours in advance online via Tock and pick-up curbside pick-up next day. Available December 12th to 23rd. The restaurant is also doing Traditional Holiday Turkey Dinner for pick-up on Christmas Eve, which includes roasted turkey breasts, confit turkey leg, sage-scented rye and sourdough stuffing, garlic-whipped Yukon potatoes, roasted yams, roasted veg and house-made Christmas pudding (um, yum!). For two to six people at $79 per person. Pre-order on the Wedgewood Hotel website by December 17th for curbside pick-up on December 24th.

homer street café and bar. Take-out Christmas dinners can be ordered from the restaurant from December 1st and picked up December 22nd and 23rd; $85 gets you the three-course (and punny) Homer for the Holidaysmenu that easily feeds two with essential next-day leftovers. Butternut squash velouté, sage roasted Hayter’s Farm turkey, all the fixings plus shortbread and molasses cookies. And, wait for it … beverage director JS Dupuis has created four wine packages to pair it with, including 40 per cent off regular pricing. hawksworth. Hawksworth At Home offers two traditional three-course family roast dinners (feeds six) including a porchetta ($400) with chestnuts and roasted apples or a prime rib($568) with Brussels sprouts and sautéed mushrooms. Each meal option includes a kale and quinoa salad, and a dark chocolate fondant for dessert. Available until December 31st. Is your family smaller? Go with the red wine-braised shin of beef ($58) with same starter and dessert. Available for pick up, or on DoorDash for delivery. Prefer a turkey dinner? Holiday Turkey To-Go ($440, serves six) features a turkey roulade, stuffing, pomme purée, buttermilk and chive biscuits, kale salad and dessert. Order by December 11th at 5 p.m.

juke fried chicken. The Turducken Feast ($179) is returning! Completely gluten-free and feeds four including scalloped potatoes, leek and sausage stuffing, Brussels sprouts with bacon jam, roasted squash and carrots with pumpkinseed dukkah, jalapeño cornbread, cranberry sauce and gravy. Order online by December 15th for pick up December 22nd and 23rd.

nuba. Sure, you can roast a turkey easy peasy, but the sides take time. The Holiday Side Dish Package To-Go includes onion walnut bread stuffing, za’atar brussels sprouts, pomegranate braised carrots, mashed parsnips, pear and feta arugula salad, roasted sweet potatoes with yam and pumpkin. Feeds four for $75. Pre-order by December 21st for delivery or pickup from the Mount Pleasant location between December 22nd and 24th.

heritage asian eatery. New Heritage Holiday Feasts are available for pickup and limited delivery at the Broadway location featuring Heritage Chicken, BBQ Pork, Truffle Siu Mai, Gai Lan, Crystal Scallop and Pea Tip Dumplings; feeding two to six adults, $69 to $139.

café medina. They read our minds.New Festive Brunch Kits To-Go feed two or four people, include a choice of mains (fricasée, cassoulet or fricasée champignon for vegetarians), focaccia, a six-pack of Medina’s famous Liège waffles with salted caramel topping, a pound of 49th Parallel Old School Espresso (whole bean) and a Mimosa Kit that includes fresh-squeezed OJ and a bottle of Chandon California Brut. Order December 21st for pickup at the restaurant on December 23rd and 24th, plus limited delivery is available within a 15-kilometre radius of the restaurant for an additional fee.
