It’s no longer a surprise that Christmas this year will not be the same. But one thing that seems to have stayed consistent, COVID-19 or not, is people’s festive cheer, proven by the fact that Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You finally reached No. 1 on the U.K. charts, 26 years after its initial release.
With this in mind, we decided to investigate what Christmas song is the most popular in Canada, and how its popularity has changed over the years. Some of the highlights for this study by OnBuy include:
- Feliz Navidad is Canada’s most searched for Christmas song, with more than 65,000 searches in the last five years!
- Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You is in second place, with just over 51,000 searches.
- Do They Know It’s Christmas? by supergroup Band Aid is the least popular of this list, with only 2,910 searches in Canada between 2015 and 2020.
Other Canadian faves: Let It Snow, Jingle Bell Rock and, of course, Last Christmas by Wham! So carol on with your favourite festive songs; after all, it’s (still) Christmas! —Vita Daily
