February 9, 2021

Missing a sweet tooth? Prefer a box of brunch fixins over a box of chocolates? We get you. Here’s where to pick up, take out, safely dine in or have delivered for Valentine’s Day in Vancouver—anything your (not-too-sweet) heart desires. —Catherine Dunwoody

Café Medina’s Valentine’s Brunch Kits, $125 for two, feature your choice of mains (fricassée, cassoulet or fricassée champignon), Liège waffles, dark chocolate salted caramel hearts from BETA5, a bag of 49th Parallel espresso, a mimosa kit with fresh-squeezed OJ and Chandon California Brut, and a signature Medina Matchbox. Optional to add a Vivio Flower Gallery, too. Pre-order for pick-up on February 13th plus limited delivery available.

Fresh Ideas Start Here (FISH) created new DIY seafood platters including a chilled seafood platter, bouillabaisse or a smoked uni shooter and handroll kit. We especially love the luxury caviar kit that includes one tin of Ocean Wise Acadian sturgeon caviar from New Brunswick, chive crème fraîche, diced egg white, diced egg yolk, crackers and fresh dill. Pre-order online, with two locations for pick up or arrange delivery for February 12th to 15th.

El Santo is serving up a dine-in experience entirely based on chocolate. First course is a salt-baked nopal (cactus) and Oaxaca salad, a main of a spiced Mexican hot chocolate braised pork cheek paired with roasted winter vegetables plus a braised green fresh herb salad, and dessert is a nutty elderflower white chocolate molé tart. This three-course menu is only available on Sunday, February 14th for dinner at $36 per person. Reservations recommended.

Beetbox, one of the city’s favourite vegan/vegetarian restos, has Fried Chick-Un Finger Bouquets available for pickup on the 14th of February. Basically, it’s breaded and fried seitan served with house-made maple mustard dip packaged in cute wrapping for $24. Orders can be placed online for pick up.

Gotham Steakhouse is a definite go-to for a romantic dinner, especially on Valentine’s Day. For $200 per couple, the three-course menu includes a winter salad, steak and lobster and chocolate devil’s food cake. Dine-in with live music, take-out or delivery—you choose.

Coho Market’s new meal kit is a three-course dinner with artisanal sourdough baguette, mixed greens salad, fresh hand-cut pappardelle “alla Bolognese” and individual chocolate sponge cakes. Bonus? A long-stem rose, a hand-poured candle and two cloth napkins. Order for pick up February 13th.

Juke Fried Chicken brings back its Let’s Cluck fried chicken bouquets, with eight pieces of trademark gluten-free, crispy fried chicken for $29. Pre-order for pickup February 14th.

1980s-theme bar Chickadee is offering special cocktail kits for you to mix up at home, including the Light My Fire and Smooth Operator (appropriately, $69 each). Pre-order for pick up between February 9th and 14th.
