No matter what the season, it’s important to apply sunscreen to your face daily. After all, sun damage can cause wrinkles, dryness and aging, and can lead to much more serious problems if not treated. Not all sunscreens are created equally, and they’re not all designed for the sensitive skin on our faces. Below, our eight top sunscreen picks for the face. —Jennifer Cox
Yves Rocher’s 100% Mineral Fluid Face and Sunscreen Body duo ($73) protects your skin while outdoors. Its unique formula promotes skin hydration and offers a barrier against sunburns, dryness and discomfort due to sun exposure, thereby diminishing the signs of aging. It also comes with an SPF 30 body sunscreen.
Clinique’s Survival For Summer Days kit ($26) includes SPF 50 sunscreen face cream, which provides oil-free UVA/UVB protection against sun-induced aging. There are no parabens, phthalates, or fragrance—just their forever promise of happy skin.
Clarins’ Dry Touch Facial Sunscreen ($32 at Sephora) requires just a small amount to gain all the benefits of its SPF 50 protection. Rich in antioxidants, this face sunscreen works well for all types of skin, even those of us who have the most sensitive skin.
The Glow Stick SPF 50 from Supergoop! ($25) is a portable, mess-free glow-boosting dry oil sunscreen that is safe to use on your face as well as your chest and shoulders. Throw it into your handbag, beach bag or tote bag—it’s totally invisible and super hydrating.
The Urban Environment Oil-Free UV Protector SPF 42 Sunscreen from Shiseido ($40) is a daily, ultra-light and oil-free sun protection lotion designed specifically for the face. This sunscreen will control excess sebum, which is damaging to the face, and promote the natural beauty of skin, all while lending a subtle matte appearance and guarding against daily environmental aggressors.
One of our new faves, Skinceuticals Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50 ($49) is a tinted, broad-spectrum sunscreen fluid with 100 per cent mineral-based UV filters that promotes radiance and an even skin tone. Bonus: no white cast!
No wonder this one’s a sellout (we couldn’t find it on our last trip to the drugstore): La Roche-Posay’s Anthelios ultra-light, oil-free sunscreen ($34) quickly penetrates skin, leaving it mattified with a natural, healthy glow. The universal tint matches most skin tones for a uniform complexion.
An anti-aging sunscreen enriched with vitamin E, Pro-Derm Facial Day Cream SPF 20 ($55) offers all the cosmetic benefits specific to antioxidants. Its broad-spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays helps prevent sunburns and photo-aging—a big win in our books!

I was told by my dermatologist that my sunscreen must have both titanium dioxide and zinc oxide to provide proper protection. I would have to look at ingredients in each product.
