Pop Queen Cardio and the Downtown Vancouver BIA are proud to kick off Vancouver Pride week with Fitness is Such a Drag—an outdoor Pride fundraiser with 100 per cent of proceeds going to the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society. On July 27, everyone is welcome at this Pride-themed mashup of beginner-friendly cardio sessions and drag performances by Vancouver’s Next Drag Superstar, Kendall Gender, and the electrifying self-proclaimed Phine, Phish and Phemenine star, Bibi SouPhresh.
Led by Vancouver-based queer fitness instructors, attendees can expect an inclusive space for anyone to show up and feel accepted. Guests pre-register by donation for the outdoor event at the šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square (Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza). The cardio sessions get your heart pumping to the beat of the music and are led by three queer Vancouver-based instructors:
- Pop Queen Cardio founder Jared Byrne will teach his well-known and empowering pattern-based dance fitness program to pop music;
- group fitness instructor Andrew Alcalde will lead the group in Zumba, infusing Latin rhythm to soul stirring music; and
- group fitness instructor Mark Wolf will instruct Step Fitness, the building blocks of simple and easy-to-follow patterns to non-stop beats.
Pre-register by donation ($15 suggested) here. Happy Pride! —Jared Byrne
