We love a good exclusive, especially when it comes to our B.C. wineries. Naramata’s Laughing Stock Vineyards just launched a new label, IMBZZL (a play on imbibe and embezzle), and the wines are a steal for the quality and price.
Only sold at BC Liquor Stores starting today, but not available at the winery itself or anywhere else, the collection includes three wines. The 2018 Fast One ($24) is a red blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, with grapes sourced from some of the finest vineyard sites in the South Okanagan, including Bull Pine vineyards. The 2020 Double Cross ($22) is a Pinot Gris with grapes sourced 100 per cent from Thomas Ranch Vineyards. Stainless-steel fermentation retains the wine’s vibrancy and perky flavours. And the 2020 Ruse ($20) is a rosé done in Provence-style, with Syrah dominant rosé using the juice stabulation technique, which means that beautiful pale-pink colour and bright flavour.
Since we like to sip plus love a good steal, IMBZZL is our new favourite hybrid-word. Wish we’d thought of it ourselves. —Catherine Dunwoody
