Hi Susanne! Please tell us a bit about yourself, and your background in beauty, to start.

I first discovered my passion travelling through Peru, Asia and Europe, where I learned about different organic ingredients and beauty rituals across the globe. I instantly wanted to learn as much as I could about sourcing and working with natural products. At the time, I had previous experience in product development, so when I was inspired by my discoveries, I decided to turn my passion into products of my own. This ultimately led me to become the Cosmetic Formulator and Organic Farmer that I am today. 20 years later, I’ve founded three extraordinary global beauty brands with award-winning products, always staying to true to that passion; sourcing and formulating with the best ingredients I hand pick across the world.

When and why did you launch Lixr? What niche were you aiming to fill?

After a year of social-distancing and wearing a mask, I knew people needed a product to make us feel good again. With my background in formulating lip products and my passion for aromatherapy, I created Lixr to fill that gap. Lixr is the first Lip Elixr formulated with aromatherapy benefits that have the power to lift your mood while hydrating your lips. Each product has been meticulously hand-crafted from start to finish without compromise, to create an extraordinary sensorial experience that makes you look and feel your best. I only use sustainably sourced, cruelty-free ingredients, so it really is lip luxury you can feel good about!

What products does Lixr currently offer, and what makes them unique?

There’s a Lip Mask for every mood and every look. First off, we have our nighttime Lip Mask, Nocturnal Kiss. It features chamomile and lavender. We like to call it a sleep well remedy for pillowy lips. Then there’s our Citrus Sugar Lip Polish, which is the most delicious exfoliator. Outside of these daily use products, we have a range of 6 Lip Elixirs, each with a tinted option, or as a neutral leave on lip mask. The tinted products are buildable, for a bold look or an effortless wash of colour. Firstly, there’s Peppermint Tonic, which helps you focus by offering fresh and clean cooling relief. Its tinted version is an electric hot pink. Then there’s Napa Cherry, a cheerful blend of Cherry Oil and Organic Pink Grapefruit, which inspires happiness. It’s like sunbeam sweetness for your lips, and it comes in a bright red. We also have Bulgarian Rose, which features 100 hand-picked petals in each jar. It’s a softer pink, with beauty oils that are known for having a comforting effect. Next, there is Café Crème. It’s our lip energizer, with the most decadent dark roast aroma in a soft, shimmery brown. Then we have Kashmir Chai, which offers a spicy shine in a rich cinnamon shade. It will leave you feeling calm and soothed. Finally, there is Love Baume, a soft and glimmering pink, featuring a sensual blend of seductive florals and vanilla. Each Lixr is unique, but equally crave-worthy.

We hear you are also an organic farmer! Can you please tell us about that, and how it has informed the creation of the Lixr range?

That’s right! From my experience as an organic farmer, I know first-hand, there are no short-cuts to create healthy, high quality ingredients. It takes passion, experience and unyielding dedication. Lixr products actually feature the botanicals I’ve grown from my 50-acre organic farm in Canada, along with the finest ingredients sourced from around the world.

What are your bestsellers (or your personal favourite), and why? Are you planning any new launches for the near future?

My personal favourite is Café Crème. It tastes like a treat and leaves my lips feeling moisturized all day long. Other best sellers have been the tinted Napa Cherry and Peppermint Tonic. Both offer a bright hue, and people have been looking for a lift and pop of colour after covering our faces with a mask for so long. In terms of new launches, we always have exciting surprises planned. While I can’t give too much away, I’d tell people to keep their eyes out for our limited edition Lixrs. We release and announce those over Instagram, so be sure to follow @lixrlip to never miss an update. We recently did a Rainbow Sprinkle balm for Pride Month, which featured refreshing ribbons of limoncello and cherry swirled into a vanilla base—they were mouthwatering!

Final (tough!) question: if you could only put one natural ingredient on your lips, what would it be and why?

This is a tough question! It’s like asking me to pick my favourite child. But, if I had to pick one, I’d say castor seed oil. It has a rich, luxurious texture with a nourishing and lasting gloss. Best of all, it’s organically sourced. It is a key ingredient in the formulas of every lip product I make.
