Pro Tips As We Prep for the Return to Travel

July 30, 2021

After more than a year of cancelled flights and delayed plans, the return of travel finally feels like it’s on the horizon—in fact, we’re already starting to plan a few late-summer weekend jaunts and a long-awaited winter vacation. Lucky for us, travel expert Heather Greenwood Davis wants to help Canadians achieve their vacation goals with pro tips on how to make the most of their upcoming travel plans.

A globetrotting pro, she’s seen travel change in big ways in the past year due to the pandemic. “COVID-19 brought travel to a halt. Then, it built up interest in people who realized how much they missed it and what was at stake if we could never go again. I think it has led to people rethinking their bucket lists and how soon they want to empty them. It has also made families, and seniors, realize that time lost can’t be recovered,” she says.

This upheaval, she continues, has culminated in Canadians “actively planning their future travel, looking for dream trips and smaller getaways that allow them to build back their confidence and explore the country and the world. We’ll also be looking to do that safely, so I think we can expect that Canadians will be more inclined to want good travel insurance for peace of mind during unpredictable times.”

Heather insists that there are things we can do to prep in advance to ensure our travel goals are within reach. In fact, American Express Canada currently has its best offers yet on seven of its most popular travel Cards. The company is offering rich welcome bonuses and the ability to earn points quickly, so everyday spending can get you closer to that vacation you so desperately need. Some of the Cards even have up to 150,000 Welcome Bonus points, which could even get a couple all the way to Europe in some cases.

“I’m always looking for ways to make travel better and easier and these Amex travel Cards do that,” she says.

There really is, she adds, an Amex travel Card for every Canadian. The American Express® Aeroplan®* Reserve Card, for one, offers a welcome bonus of up to 100,000 Aeroplan® points, plus 10x the points earned on eats and drinks up to 50,000 points, for a total value of up to 150,000 Aeroplan® points. Other Cards include the The Platinum Card®, with a welcome bonus of up to 100,000 Membership Rewards® points, plus 10x the points on eats and drinks up to 50,000 points, for a total value of up to 150,000 Membership Rewards® points. . Recommended for families, the American Express® AIR MILES®* Reserve Credit Card has a welcome bonus of up to 5,000 AIR MILES®* Bonus Miles, plus 5x the Miles on eats and drinks up to 2,500 Miles, for a total value of up to 7, 500 AIR MILES®* Reward Miles.

“By making use of the Cards, Canadians will be able to get to their dream destinations sooner, which is why I recommend checking out americanexpress.ca/bestoffersyet,” she advises.

A final thought from Heather, whose own travel bucket list includes British Columbia, Switzerland and Denmark: “As we all begin to prepare for our return to travel, it’s a great time to take advantage of these offers to help offset some of those travel costs. Amex Canada has several Cards that also offer a host of benefits ranging from lounge access, priority boarding, airport valet, security lane bypass, hotel perks, flexible redemption options and more, so when you’re ready to travel, you’re really making it special.”
