Vicki’s August Beauty Faves

August 18, 2021

We’re in the middle of a heatwave but, believe it or not, the tail-end of summer is fast approaching. That being said, all of my favourite beauty products this month are summer-specific or designed to withstand the heat. Below are my fave products for beating the heat. —Vicki Duong

hairitage by mindy argan oil. Even your hair has to take its vitamins. The lightweight argan oil ($8) from Hairitage by Mindy helps add some nutrients back into my tresses without ever weighing down my hairdo. I love how versatile this product is and that it can be used pre blow-dry or styling for extra protection from heat or when my hair is dry to tame flyaways and add a hint of shine.

amika reset charcoal detoxifying scalp cleansing oil. I love dry shampoo as much as the next person, especially in the summer, but it does wreak havoc on my scalp. Enter Amika cleansing oil ($33). It works as a cleansing, pre-shampoo scalp treatment that detoxifies your scalp while absorbing toxins, dirt and buildup.

neostrata sheer hydration sunscreen. Although I wear sunscreen year-round, in the summer I like to opt for a sheer formula that targets oiliness. Lately my go-to has been Neostrata Sheer Hydration ($33) to protect my skin from the damaging and arguing effects of UV rays. Plus makeup layers over it wonderfully.

pink house lavender after sun toner. I adore this Vancouver-based brand and all of its clean products that are also cruelty-free and vegan. Pink House Lavender After Sun Spray ($18) is ideal for when you spend a little too long outside. This soothing mist of lavender, witch hazel and aloe vera is extremely calming on sun-distressed skin, plus smells the scent is ultra-soothing.

boscia all-over body deodorant. Perspiration comes with rising temps, but just because we’re sweaty doesn’t mean we have to suffer through embarrassing body odour. I have been reaching for Boscia Deodorant ($35) with a prebiotic and probiotic blend to help prevent odour-casing bacteria while kaolin clay helps purify and detoxify your underarms.

nair wax ready-strips. Ideal for last-minute trips to the beach, Nair wax strips ($19) make hair removal easy. I love that there is no rubbing or warming require, just peel and place. The strips boast up to four weeks of results, plus a blend of Japanese cherry blossom and rice bran oil keeps you feeling moisturized.

moroccanoil hair & body fragrance mist. I am all about multi-tasking products in the summer and I have been reaching for the newest Morrocanoil mist ($36) non-stop this season. Suitable for hair and body, this mist has slightly floral and spicy amber notes layered with the signature Moroccanoil scent that lasts you throughout the day.

maybelline fit me tinted moisturizer. We all seem to go for less makeup whenever temps begin to rise, but for those of us who want a bit of coverage, tinted moisturizer is the perfect fit. The Maybelline Fit Me complexion line has long been a drugstore fave and they recently added a tinted moisturizer ($14) that is worthy of cult status. It provides natural coverage meant to blur pores and even out redness without hiding your skin.

makeup by mario blush stick. Cream blush seems to be having a moment as the cosmetic it product. Not only does the cream formula lend to a dewy finish, but it seamlessly melts and blends with your existing makeup. My newest addition is the Soft Pop Blush Stick ($35) from Makeup by Mario. The duel-ended blush stick offers a sheer and buildable coverage for the perfect flushed look.
