Mid-autumn Festival, also known as Moon Festival, is one of the biggest celebrations in many Asian cultures. When the perfectly round full moon shines bright in the sky, friends and families get together for an evening of paper lanterns, good food and, most importantly, mooncakes.
To celebrate the tradition, Vancouver-based Buttermere Patisserie is offering a box of six modern-day snowy mooncakes made of steamed glutinous rice flour. Meant to be eaten chilled, the mochi-like mooncakes are chewy yet soft on the outside and packed with exciting flavours on the inside. Each mooncake is shaped to symbolize a piece of the ancient legend of Goddess Chang’e: the Jade Hare (coconut pandan), Marigold (matcha red bean), Lotus (cream cheese cranberry), Hua-chuan (means the shape of the antique Chinese window pane in Chinese, black sesame hazelnut), Auspicious Cloud (milky taro) and the Mid-autumn (salted egg custard).
This super-camera-friendly mooncake box set, priced at $60, is now available for online pre-order till September 18. Pick up or delivery from September 12 to 21. —Louisa Chan
