We may have snapped up these delectable gluten-free baked goods at our local farmers market or bought them at Stong’s or Bean Around the World, but Earthling has just opened its own café and bake shop—and we need to visit.
Korean sister and brother team Chae and Jimmy own and operate the Earthling Foods dedicated gluten-free facility in Port Coquitlam, creating French patisserie treats available at retailers or by home delivery ordered online. Front of house has been made into a café serving lattes and the like, plus premium teas and their GF baked goods, plus a cute boutique with bakery-inspired bath bombs and more. Known for their dacquoise—meringue cookies with lovely and light buttercream fillings—these treats are less sweet than a macaron and come in flavours like tiramisu, blueberry lemon, seasonal pumpkin spice, Korean-inspired matcha tea, and injeolmi (roasted soybean powder/ kinako).
Tiny two-bite sized mochi bundt cakes, madeleines and personal-size vegan pound cakes round out the offerings, all made with protein-rich almond and chickpea flour, plant-based oils and organic cane sugar. —Catherine Dunwoody
