Hi Jovana! When and why did you launch Silkzees?

As a mother myself, I have a deep appreciation and understanding of how difficult a new parent’s journey can be. After the birth of my daughter, I was deeply inspired to provide a solution for some of the most common issues related to a newborn’s sleep, specifically things I experienced with my daughter and know many other mothers globally also experience. After my daughter was born, I noticed that she started developing a bald patch at the back of her head, which also resulted in a rash. After researching further, I found it was due to the friction of plain cotton bedding and sleeping on her back. Even though I had purchased all of the latest high-end baby equipment for her, including the Snoo Bassinet, SnuggleMe Organic lounger and UppaBaby stroller, I couldn’t find luxurious quality bedding to put inside of these pieces. Personally, I always used silk pillowcases to aid in my own hair growth and prevent breakage, so naturally I wanted my little one to have the same! After a year of back-and-forth prototypes, Silkzees Fitted Bassinet Solution was born in June 2021!

What makes this baby bassinet sheet unique?


There are a lot of bassinets to choose from on the market from low to high end, however, when it comes to bedding the only options, until now, were different variants of cotton. While organic cotton is excellent for babies and adults alike, it doesn’t provide all the same solutions as mulberry silk. When creating this product, I wanted to ensure I included the most beneficial elements from both cotton and silk, thus half of each Silkzees bassinet fitted sheet is made from quilted organic cotton to ensure durability and comfort for the baby’s body. The area where the baby lays their head is made from 25 momme Grade 6A mulberry silk, making it the highest grade of silk bedding on the market for babies. This combined with unique design elements – fuses together both functionality with a luxury aesthetic. The quilted aesthetic was inspired by my love for the quilted design of the iconic Chanel classic bag, and because quilting provides durability and comfort with minimal padding, I knew this was important to incorporate into the overall product. As an extra personal touch, we offer a custom embroidery option to monogram initials for a bespoke look. We also wanted to create packaging that was deeply special for the purpose of gifting. It is beautifully wrapped and ready to be gifted. The box includes a laundry bag, quality assurance and care card.
