Once in a while, I get very excited about what the editor-in-chief sends my way. I must confess, dear reader, that I might have been more impatient to try out peanut butter flavoured whiskey than many exquisite, albeit traditional, scotches.
I don’t think it was just the novelty aspect this time. I love peanut butter and I love whiskey. If anything, I was rather apprehensive that someone might have tried and failed to marry the two. Thankfully, Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey is anything but a failure. Carefully crafted by a husband and wife from California, the drink is a serious competitor in the market of flavoured whiskeys.
It smells and tastes like peanut butter. The whiskey lays in the background and brings some notes of pepper but it is otherwise fairly plain. As a result, only the flavour of peanut butter is really present. The finish is very long, sweet and delicious. It feels like you have just drank a boozy peanut butter dessert of sorts. It is indulgent, intuitive and probably accessible to people who do not even like whiskey. Fireball Whiskey should tremble if first-year university students learn about this one. If you are a whiskey amateur, I think I have boiled things down to a formula. You should weigh the $62 tag on the bottle against your love for peanut butter. —Guillaume Garih
