Donatella Versace knows how to make a statement. This season, the Italian brand presented a young and playful collection featuring a colour palette full of pop. The show venue was covered in silk scarves, creating a canopy of Versace’s classic foulard print.
“The foulard is a fundamental component of Versace’s heritage and character,” read the show notes. “It acted as a canvas for our iconic prints and is worn in multiple ways, from knotted tops to headscarves to bag accessories. It’s a way of adding Versace attitude to any look.”
The runway show began with an array of black outfits hit with hints of the Very Versace print. Garments featured cut-outs and slashes fastened back together with the brand’s signature safety pins in different shades and sizes. The show progressed into vibrant pieces with bold embellishments, accessorized with platform heels, pastel tights and beautiful Versace purses. Many small leather goods were attached to the bags as mini accessories.
Relaxed suiting and PJ sets in Versace’s ornate baroque-style pattern were featured throughout the collection. Wide-leg trousers, logo tees, denim and lots of silky scarf details made this range feel youthful and fresh. The final looks featured chain-mail dresses and sleek latex sets in Miami neon shades, ready to hit the dance floor.
Star of the Versace’s FW21 campaign, singer Dua Lipa, opened and closed the runway show. Her music served as the soundtrack for the spring showcase. More famous faces gracing the runway included Naomi Campbell, Gigi Hadid, Emily Ratajkowski and Lourdes Leon. Such a star-studded cast attracted many viewers to watch the live stream, temporarily crashing the Versace website.
