Here’s The Bikini We’ll Be Taking On Our Next Beach Vacation (Win!)

It’s been a minute since we chatted with Zahné Theron and, with a potential beach vacation looming (fingers crossed), we decided it was time to catch up with the Bellini Bikini founder and ask her how her business is doing, and what’s coming up in beachwear in 2022. (And yes, we’ll be packing one of her swim pieces in our wintery holiday bag!) —Noa Nichol

Hi Zahné! It’s great to chat with you again. Last time we spoke, you had just launched Bellini Bikini. One year later, how is it going?

Glad to connect again. Bellini Bikini is going well! We had a wonderful summer and have tonnes planned for next year already.

You kept your brand alive through the pandemic; what was building a new business like, amid all of the economic uncertainty? Any lessons learned?

Many, many lessons learned. As with any business, there will always be learning curves and adjustments needing to be made. Starting a seasonal product-based business during a pandemic definitely called for more hiccups than expected, but I can honestly say that I am very grateful that for everything that has happened since launching. One big thing I learned is that I need to remember to take time for myself. If I am not in a good place and I am stressed out, then it will reflect through the business. It’s kind of like that saying, “You have to love yourself before you can love anyone else.” Same thing with business. Take care of yourself so you can properly take care of your business!

What new styles, pieces and/or designs have you added to your range? Are you still focused on staples, or have you furthered your vision?

Since we spoke last, we have come out with two new collections: our Milk + Honey and Summer Sunset collections. They are all simple, staple designs! That being said, we are furthering the vision in terms of manufacturing, materials and honing in on true staples for Summer 2022. I can’t say much yet … but expect something amazing for next summer!

Inclusive sizing and sustainability were both priorities for you last year; are these still pillars of your brand?

Absolutely. One thing that as a brand we definitely struggle with is the sizing aspect. Since we are still such a small brand, it is very costly for us to come out with more than five sizes. Even if you look at startup swim brands right now, not many even have five. Usually, they start with three, then add as the brand grows. That being said, something I always try to reiterate is that Bellini Bikini is only a year-and-a-half old … there is so much more that is planned for the future. This is truly just the beginning!

We just experienced a long, hot summer! What Bellini Bikini styles were most popular for the season?!

We sure did! The new Georgie x Zabi Set in Cinnamon has been a huge hit. I am not going to lie when I said we really hit the nail on the head with that colour.

Which Bikini Bellini should we (or will you) be packing on our winter beach vacation this year?

Oh, I love this question! I will actually be going on a beach vacation and I will be bringing ALL of my Bellini Bikini suits, haha! (I am quite the over packer.) But, if you are looking to add one of our suits to your collection for vacation, I would definitely recommend the Rayne Set if you are looking for something high-waisted and chic, or the Aubrey Set if you’re trying to avoid tan lines.
