Vicki’s September Beauty Picks

October 4, 2021

While I am well past the age of back-to-school season, something about September always feels like the start of something new. From coveted September issues (including the Vita revamp!) to the changing seasons and fresh fall fashions hitting the shelves, I am all about changing up my beauty products as well. Below are some of my fave finds from the past month. —Vicki Duong

glossier monochromes eyeshadow trio. I’m a big fan of a monochromatic eye because it’s an easy way to add a pop of colour to your look, even if you’re a makeup newbie. Glossier recently launched a new eyeshadow trio ($29) to take the guesswork out of eye makeup. Each trio comes with three buildable finishes: matte, satin and metallic. Wear one all over the lid for a bold look or layer for an effortlessly chic style.

revlon kiss glow lip oil. With social events back in my agenda I have been reaching for lip products once again. The new Revlon lip oil ($14) has quickly become a new fave because it provides high shine, moisture without any stick and a hint of colour. Available in a variety of shades, my go-to has been M.V.Peach—the perfect autumn nude with a warm undertone.

ilia limitless lash lengthening mascara. Mascaras can often be touch-and-go for me since I have poker-straight lashes that refuse to hold a curl, but my search is finally over. The Ilia Limitless Mascara ($37) has recently reached holy grail status in my cosmetics bag. I love that the clean formula has shea butter and beeswax to nourish and condition my lashes so they’re never crunchy, while holding my curl all day long.

kylie cosmetics pressed blush. Canadians rejoice, Kylie Cosmetics is now available in Canada at Shopper’s Drug Mart! Lately, I’ve been reaching for the blush ($23) in the shade Crush, the perfect peachy (almost bronze) that gives your skin a natural sun-kissed look, even when it’s raining cats and dogs.

amika reset charcoal detoxifying scalp cleanser. Resetting my routine in the fall also includes resetting my scalp. The Amika pre-shampoo ($33) does wonders to absorb toxins, dirt and buildup without drying out your locks. Applied to dry hair and scalp, this formula turns into a light foam when activated with water that easily rinses away clean.

satya eczema relief. This past month I took my first trip in years and, while I’ve missed travelling, my skin did not appreciate the change in humidity. From being on the plane to adjusting to a new climate, my skin was in serious need of some TLC. Lately, I’ve been reaching for Satya Eczema Relief ($26) for instant skin relief. I adore this multi-purpose formula that works on my face, lips and body!

tata harper superkind bio-barrier serum. With the air getting crisper, I have been mindful of the products I’m using as my skin is exposed to more cold air. The newest addition to the Superkind collection from Tata Harper is this fragrance-free serum ($173) that boasts intensive and visible age defence for reactive and stressed skin.

boscia 0.6% pro-retinol repair + renew waterless advanced treatment. I’m not going to lie, I find using retinol a bit intimidating but Boscia’s newest waterless treatment ($67) makes it more approachable. I love that it’s waterless making the formula more concentrated (and more eco-friendly!) It also contains natural ingredients, like bakuchiol, shown to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, plus helps combat environmental stressors.

charlotte tilbury cryo-recovery lifting face mask.  Whether it’s the changing season or just the year we’ve all had, my skin has been more stressed and seemingly tired over the past few weeks. Enter the new Cryo-Recovery Mask ($76) from Charlotte Tilbury—the perfect pick me up for a more lifted and refreshed look. The reusable mask utilizes acupressure with points along the temple for instant relief.

silvi anti-acne pillowcases. Skin care isn’t just what you put your face, it’s also the materials you come in contact with throughout your day.  Did you know that your pillowcase may be the culprit of your destressed skin? I recently started using the Silvi pillowcase ($79) designed for better skin, hair, and of course, sleep. The fabric is treated with silver to help eliminate bacteria and is hypoallergenic and reduces friction on your skin and tresses!
